A charcoal mat lies low for them to rake and sprawl across, and a sisal-rope post rises straight out of it to climb and dig, coarse enough to take the deepest pull without wearing smooth. A few things can help:
- Put ORIA Classic where they already scratch, not where you would rather they scratched.
- Rub a little catnip into the mat or the post, or set the toy swinging to pull them over.
- Play with them around it so they touch it while they are distracted.
- Reward them the moment they scratch it themselves.
- Never take their paws and put them on it.
- Give it time. A Companion can take weeks to claim something new.
Where should I place ORIA Classic?
Start at the spot your Companion already scratches. If they work the sofa, stand ORIA Classic right beside it.
Somewhere they pass often works better than somewhere tidy.
Will ORIA Classic stay steady while my Companion scratches?
Yes. The post screws into a weighted birch board that holds it steady however hard your Companion works it. They can throw their whole weight against the post and it stays where you put it.
